Dyspareunia treatment (pain during sexual intercourse)
at the Huddersfield and Manchester Hypnotherapy Clinic
Dyspareunia can occur in males and females, although it is far
more common in women. When it occurs in men it is far more likely
to be a medical problem than a psychosomatic problem. In women,
the symptoms are similar to Virginismus (pain sometimes experienced
when losing virginity) but should not be confused with this, as
the pain is not purely due to lack of lubrication.
Women suffering from dyspareunia experience a pain located in
the genitals or the pelvis that can occur at anytime before, during,
or after sexual intercourse. This is not to be confused with the
natural pain some women experience when being penetrated by a
penis that is larger than comfortable for the vaginal cavity.
Women who have true dyspareunia may also have vaginismus.
